Reuben Amorim arrived at Manchester United in November 2024 to replace Eric Ten Hag, but Ineos and Ir Jim Ratcliffe briefly considered another candidate
The Manchester United Chiefs reportedly considered turning to All Gunner Solskal before landing Reuben Amorim last year. Amorim was hired to replace Erik Ten Hag in November and arrived with a good reputation from Sports Lisbon, but he is now under intense pressure as he approaches a year at work.
The Portuguese boss won 18 of 18 of 49 matches he handled United, enduring his nightmare debut campaign and finished 15th in the Premier League before losing to the Europa League final. With no European football this season, the focus was on domestic success, but his position was once again raised in the Premier League after losing to League 2 Grimsby in the Carabao Cup and a stud start.
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Grasner led his team to an unbeaten start this season, and winning the FA Cup in May is one of the things United’s hierarchies considered. Ir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineo Steam were behind the appointment of Amorim, whom he believed was a very successful coup in the sport.
They moved for him after sacking 10 hugs just months after handing Dutchman a new contract. And the confused thinking is shown by the fact that, according to the Sun, fleeting consideration was given to reclaiming Zorkier.

Former United striker Solskjaer was fired by United in November 2021 after nearly three years of in charge. He was available last November and is well-liked at the club due to his character and history as both a player and manager.
Solskjaer is also a proud United alumni, scoring 126 goals as a player in 366 games, winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the Champions League. Even in the dire circumstances in which he was fired as manager, the statement released by United showed the depth of sentiment between the parties.
“I have always been a Manchester United legend and I regret reaching this difficult decision,” the statement said. “I am grateful for my tireless efforts as a manager and for our best wishes for the future.
“His place in club history is always safe as a great man and manager who gave us many wonderful moments, not just his story as a player.
Solskjaer is now available again. He was fired by Besiktas in August seven months after the Turkish club and reportedly returned to the Manchester region this week. United claims they haven’t lined up any Amorim alternatives facing a key game against Sunderland on Saturday, but they know that Norwegians are interested in their work.
Speaking at the Oslo Business Forum last year, Solskal highlighted his feelings about his work. “When family (unit) asks, I’ll say yes every week,” he said. “I feel it’s wrong to talk about the work that other people have right now, but of course I say yes.”
