Liverpool experienced back-to-back defeats in the Premier League and Champions League.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carrager urges the club to bench Florian Wiltz, describing Anfield’s current situation as “Shambles.” The Reds lost 1-0 to Galatasaray, and a first half penalty from Victor Osimhen sealed their fate.
The loss marks the second consecutive loss for manager Arne Slot, following a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday. Despite a generally successful season, recent performances revealed vulnerabilities and raised concerns about Liverpool’s ability to defend their Premier League title.
Wirtz, who signed a £116 million deal with Liverpool, was expected to continue his impressive form from Bundesliga. However, after eight appearances in the Premier League and Champions League, the 22-year-old has yet to make a major impact.

Carragher, the Champions League winner at Liverpool in 2005, believes that there may be a time when Wirtz will sit on the bench to help his team regain his form.
“I’m not looking at the top team,” he told CBS Sports. “Liverpool doesn’t play football, they play basketball, and I told the slots this in the first game of the season against Bournemouth.
“They obviously have great managers. Liverpool were the first team last season, but they sprinkled a bit of stardust in terms of the transfers they brought in.
“I think now that I know that for the manager he really needs to make his money. He won the Premier League last season, but there are few issues he has to fix.
“It would be really interesting how he does about it because he spent a lot of money on certain players. The balance of the team is not right now. The obvious is Florian Whartz, not race. He’s a boy, he’s coming to a new league and has a lot of time.
“But now he needs to come out of the team. Liverpool is returning to the presence they had last season and trying to build confidence and stability. It looks like a mess right now.”
This comes after a tough verdict during his Sky Sports analysis. The former defender emphasized that Alexis Mac Alistair’s struggle did not help Whartz settle, urging Liverpool to do more to ease his transition.
Karager said Monday: “I think we should analyze someone who spent that money. He ran two seasons of famous star, Bundesliga player of the year, winning the Bundesliga, a veteran international with Germany.
“I think it’s safe to say that he’s not been great for Liverpool before, but I don’t think Liverpool has been great for him ever.
“Liverpool has to do more for him as he doesn’t get the ball as often as he used to. He felt it was tough. Newcastle would always be a baptism of fire in that left half position, but you can understand that you’re against that midfield.
“This is happening quite a bit where he’s taking off his shot and people are getting a little faster on top of him. I know that the standards for the Premier League are better than the Bundesliga, perhaps faster.
“In this situation, it’s faster and people are on him. He’s a young boy and is trying to meet the league’s demands. There’s no doubt about that.”
