Arsenal is firmly mixed at the top of the Premier League following a thrilling last minute victory at Newcastle. Mikel Arteta’s team could return to domestic action against West Ham this Saturday after a week of European clash with Olympiacos and end the weekend at the top of the league if other outcomes have an advantage.
Despite a series of second place finishes, manager Arteta is putting pressure on him to add to his FA Cup victory during his nearly five years in office. However, the club is effectively preparing for the future, and William Saliba is the newest senior player to commit to a new contract.
Arteta has done well to strengthen his team along with transfer chief Andrea Berta, and Martin Zubimendi has been particularly distinguished since his arrival in the summer. Noni Maduke shows his promise despite his unfortunate injury in the recent draw against Manchester City.
The Gunners’ next league rival claimed victory on their final two trips to Emirates Stadium under two different managers. David Moys won a 2-0 victory in December 2023, but Graham Potter was at the helm last season when West Ham defeated a 10-man Arsenal team with a lonely goal.
Potter then goes aside, with former Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo leading the Hammer, but what’s scrutiny here is his counterpart. These are the latest updates around North London.
Stadium expansion plan
When Arsenal moved to a new ground in 2006, a considerable focus was placed on Emirates Stadium’s reputation as a state-of-the-art facility. This remains true despite rival clubs relocating their own stadiums, but details about the next phase of redevelopment are now emerging.
The email reports that Otto Mary will lead the proposal. Marie played a key role in building Sophie Stadium in Los Angeles. Los Angeles is home to the Los Angeles Rams, providing expertise in key cities’ major projects, and its venture cost around £4 billion.
All timescales and costs remain tentative given that construction has not yet begun. There’s nothing to start until after the 2026/27 campaign. The first report shows that despite the new plan adding more than 10,000 seats, the project could cost around twice the £380 million needed to build Arsenal ground almost 20 years ago.
Arteta Sack Prediction
Arsenal icon Robert Pier may encourage the Gunners hierarchy to dismiss Mikel Arteta, fearing another season without silverware. Following the 2020 FA Cup victory, Arteta was unable to offer the trophy despite the club’s heavy investment in the team, but extended the title challenge until the final day of 2024.
“In my opinion, if Arsenal doesn’t win the trophy this year, management will consider finding another coach,” Piers told Foot Mercato. “He was there for five years and unfortunately the title escaped him. What matters to the fans is the championship.
“The money was spent on the summer transfer window. He made certain requests that were met by the Arsenal Committee. If Arsenal can’t win the championship, I think there will definitely be a change on the bench.
“It’s not easy because we have Liverpool. Man City, Chelsea, who are out there, won’t be that late. But I think Arsenal will hold the cards and win the title to the players.”
