Liverpool was denied a penalty at the end of the Champions League clash with Galatasaray, and later UEFA explains why Ibrahima Conate was not awarded a spot kick at the moment of the game’s death

UEFA explained why Ibrahima Konate was not given a penalty during Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray. When the Frenchman was boxed into the second half of the game on Tuesday evening, the Reds were given a faint hope of hope.

Liverpool was striving for an equalizer after Victor Osimchen admitting his own successful penalty. Corners were delivered and Conate attempted a volley towards the goal, but he was intercepted by Wilfried Singo.

Judge Clement Turpin initially pointed out the scene, but was advised to confirm the incident on the monitor and promptly reversed his decision. UEFA later revealed why the decision was made.

In a post on the UEFA website, they explained: “The decision has been reversed: no penalty. The penalty will be cancelled.

When it was discovered that Dominique Zoboschrai had fouled Barris Irmaz on his box, he was given a controversial penalty courtesy of Galatasarai. The midfielder didn’t collide with the 25-year-old, but he was deemed to have caught him with the arm behind him.

The case had not been reviewed by the VAR and there was no statement of the issue from Var, as the judge’s decision was firmly standing. After the defeat, Reds manager Arne Slot expressed his disappointment.

He said: “Again, I’m disappointed. For me, this was a different performance (from Crystal Palace) on and off the ball. He played very well in the first half and had a great chance to get 1-0. It’s hard to compare this situation to the past.

“We can be a little smarter in these situations and I can’t blame Dominique Soboschlei for the situation, they have a 20% penalty of 100%.

“We’re off the level shown last season so far. This is something the schedule can bring. Galatasaray is not a simple game. We’re playing the difficult game, Chelsea Away right now.

“The margins were small, last season. I’m on the wrong side for the second time in a row.” I saw a lot in the first half, but much less in the second half.

“I don’t think there was a lot of playing time in the second half. Their strikers were on the floor in four or five times. It was hard to gain momentum in the game.”
