Reuben Amorim’s position continues to be scrutinized following Manchester United’s loss at Brentford, claiming that the club’s icon can be represented if the Portuguese coach is fired.
Michael Carrick could be an option to intervene in Manchester United if the club plunders Reuben Amorim and decides to search for a new manager in the coming weeks.
The pressure and scrutiny against 40-year-old Amorim continued to grow after another disappointing result over the weekend, with United falling to a 3-1 defeat at Brentford. The result has only bolstered Amorim’s passionate Premier League record talk since taking over at Old Trafford last November, and he scored just 34 points from 33 games.
Manchester United’s top brass are understood to be standing by their man for now. However, Amorim’s position seems more dangerous week to week, so noise on potential exchanges continues to rise in the background, including Carrick’s prospects for an Old Trafford return.

The Sun claims to be one of the caretakers options open to United if Carrick decides to make necessary management changes. The 44-year-old former Middlesbrough manager, took charge of two United games in late 2021, when All-Gunnar Solskaer was fired and spent time on the club’s coaching staff following a 12-year stint as a Red Devils player.
The report notes that Carrick is still approaching United’s setup as his 16-year-old son, Jacy, is part of the club’s academy. He recently worked as a reporting expert for the Champions League at Amazon Prime and interviewed Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank.
Interestingly, in an interview with Athletic in 2023, Solskjaer flipped Carrick as future Manchester United manager. “You can’t see him not being the manager of Manchester United.”
Solskjaer added: “He’s a winner, a big winner, but he continues to control his emotions. He knows what he wants and doesn’t lose his rags.
Carrick could rely on a caretaker basis, but Manchester United have other coaches in the Premier League.
