Former Manchester United interim manager Ralph Langnick has approved the cries of Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, who has linked to the Old Trafford Hot Seat in recent days. Current United boss Reuben Amorim is facing pressure after leaving Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Brentford in a free fall.
Manchester Evening News reported Monday that Amorim still enjoys the support of the United hierarchy for now, but refuses to let his future speculation go away. The Portuguese tactician has managed to secure just 34 points from a potential 99 in Premier League actions since taking the reins. The United boss was forced to publicly support his manager following the embarrassment of the Carabao Cup last month against the town of Grimsby.
The report suggests that if Amorim fails to turn things around, United have created a list of three potential successors. Former England boss Gareth Southgate, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraora and Glassner are all reportedly thought to be increasing pressure for Amorim to stop United’s worrying slides.
After struggling during his challenging interim tenure at Old Trafford in 2021/22, Langnick had previously been eager to praise Glasner.
“To me, Oliver Glasner is currently one of the most exciting coaches in Germany and in Europe. He is an absolute top coach,” Langnick said in March 2023.
Glasner has received extensive acclaim for his Sterling work at the Palace, where he currently enjoys 18 unbeaten runs in all competitions.
The South London outfit secured the community shield in August after winning the FA Cup, which offered a shock to Manchester City last season.
Palace also won another victory over Arne Slot’s team on Saturday – bringing an end to the unbeaten start of the campaign.
Rumors have swirled around whether or not a Glasner will be approached before the season ends, with Austrians using three systems similar to what Amorim employs.
