Gabriel Magalhayce won the Arsenal dramatic late winner at Newcastle on Sunday, but only after dodging the red card to hit Nick Urtemaid in the face
Newcastle striker Nick Urtemade admitted that he might have had a contact meal from Gabriel Magalges after the Arsenal defender escaped his punishment. Gabriel won a dramatic late winner for Gunner in a talented encounter at St. James Park on Sunday, avoiding the red card early in the match.
Woltemade’s header raised Newcastle 1-0, but Mikel Arteta’s side rebounded and changed things late. Mikel Merino was equal towards Declan Rice’s cross before Gabriel converted from Martin Odegard’s corner and completed his comeback 2-1.
Newcastle felt that Gabriel was still on the pitch after the Brazilian put his elbow in the Ultemaid’s face early in the game. The Newcastle striker responded and warned the referee, but Val determined that the collision did not meet the red card threshold.
“After finishing, I had a situation where I felt his elbow in my face just two metres after finishing, so his arms had to be really high,” Woltemade told Sky Sports.

“I just told the judge that I felt something on my face and I don’t think it’s right to feel something on my face, but I’m not the type of player to fall over this.
He added:
“I’m sorry a few seconds after doing something in the game, but I say it’s not part of the game. I like situations where you can have a good fight, but it has to be fair all the time. His elbow should not be in my face.”
Gabriel’s Instagram stories were full of jubilant posts about his winning goal. This came in second place, embarrassing two points from Liverpool leaders after being beaten 2-1 by Crystal Palace.
The incident with Woltemade was just one of many flashpoints in the game, and former Premier League umpire Dermot Gallagher felt he had escaped with one.
“I think he was lucky,” he said on Sky Sports. “He was lucky that the judge didn’t see it, so he went to VAR and VAR had to say a red card or say nothing, and decided it wasn’t a red card. I don’t think it’s a red card.
