Man Utd receives a new verdict on Var’s controversy in a branded statement “Absolute Nonsense”

Manchester United were beaten 3-1 by Brentford, and Bruno Fernandez missed a key second half penalty after Nathan Collins avoided the red card as he fouled Brian Mbemo.

Nathan Collins of Brentford led Manchester United's Brian Mbeumo and was awarded a penalty in a Premier League match between Brentford and Manchester United at Brentford Community Stadium in the UK on September 27, 2025.

Former Premier League umpire Mark Halsey has branded a statement explaining his decision not to send Nathan Collins as “absolute nonsense.”

The Brentford defender avoided receiving a march order after admitting a penalty during his 3-1 victory at Manchester United. With the bees leading 2-1, Collins was punished for pulling Brian Mbeumo back as they were trying to connect with the ball.

Judge Craig Pawson pointed to the scene, but opposed to showing Collins the red card. That was despite the United striker poised to fire shots from close range at goal.

The VAR on duty confirmed Pawson’s decision, with Bruno Fernandez missing from the scene, adding even more insult to the injury. The Premier League Match Center statement explained the decision in a statement released swiftly after the penalty was awarded.

The statement stated, “The referee’s penalty call has been checked and confirmed by the VAR – Collins was deemed to have pulled Mbeumo back.

“Var also checked Collins for the umpire’s yellow card call. They thought Mbeumo was not in control of the ball.”

But Halsey, who has been hosting the Premier League for over a decade, denounced the decision and subsequent explanations, suggesting that the correct call has been reduced and dried up.

Halsey told The Sun: “The Match Center statement said Mbeumo has no control over the ball, which is not stated in law about controlling the ball.

“It’s about the possibility of controlling the ball.” In my opinion, the match center statement was absolute nonsense, and it was a clear and clear denial of the opportunity for goalscoring.

“Manchester United will be extremely disappointed with the decision. They should have shown a red card to the Brentford player.”

The loss at GTECH was United’s third in just six league matches, bringing vision to the bottom half. It also went on for the long run, when Reuben Amorim couldn’t return to Premier League matches.

Amorim refused to openly criticize the decision, lamenting that he had no control over the game instead. “We have the ability and ability to control the game and calm the game down. We didn’t do that today,” he explained.

“You guys have the ability to express your opinions on decisions and make decisions. The referee said that Brian (Mbeumo) had no control over the ball.

“Again, I don’t want to focus on the referee, especially in these kinds of moments. What I should have done this afternoon is better play and we need to play better.”

Despite another chastity defeat, the Portuguese boss is sure he can turn it around.

“If we lose, we’ll go back to the same place and fight again for one victory that will help us build momentum.

“Guys, I’m always at work. If I win, I’m in a different state of mind. That’s normal. I’m always confident because I know what to do.”
