Arne Slot provided a pessimistic rating for Giovan Nileoni after the Italian defender was stretched during Liverpool’s debut.

“Usually, players’ emotions taught you a lot. I saw a player from Dutch Eredivisy over the weekend.
When asked whether Leoni had injured his knee, Slot replied, “It’s not his shoulder.”
The teenager’s injury cast a shadow on the night when Liverpool booked their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup in a 2-1 victory courtesy of Alexander Isaac’s club’s first goal, casting a shadow over the late effort from Hugo Ekitique.

Looking back at his team’s show, Slot said, “It’s not our best performance. If you’re playing a completely new team, you can expect a lot of players who haven’t played in a long time.
“There were positive things. Giorgi Mamardashvili had a good game. Federico Chiesa and Giovanni Leoni had good games.
“It’s a positive out of the game, but the way we played as a team — Southampton played well so we didn’t take anything away — that wasn’t our best performance.”
