The third round of the Carabao Cup is scheduled to continue on Tuesday night, with Premier League clubs taking part in the European competition and taking part in action. The third round began with four games last week, but with the start of the Champions League, most bonds are scheduled for this week. This includes a home match against Liverpool’s relegation Southampton, who is seeking a cup break after a brooding start to the championship season. Other Tuesday fixtures include a wolf trip in Everton.
On Wednesday, Manchester City traveled to Huddersfield Town, Portvale hosts Arsenal, and champion Newcastle United welcomes Bradford City. The fourth round draw follows these matches. As they prepare for a busy football night, Express Sports will look at the rules of the Carabao Cup this season, with extra time, alternatives and vars.
Do you have extra time for the Carabao Cup?
At this stage of competition, there is no extra time. If the match ends in a draw after 90 minutes, it will be sent directly to the penalty.
The extra time will only be implemented in the semi-finals and will be implemented in the finals if necessary.
What are the alternative rules for the Carabao Cup?
Each club may list up to nine players on the bench for tie, but only five of them are available.
Each team is allowed up to three opportunities to replace them during the match, but changes at halftime do not count towards this limit.
Is var used in carabao cups?
It will not be deployed unless all home clubs in the round have access to the system.
That is clearly not feasible as many lower league clubs are still in the competition. This means there is no VAR in the third round. This is a relief for many supporters.
It can be used in the semi-finals, but depends on whether all four clubs are capable of technology. In 2024, the VAR was not used until the final.
That’s because the championship club Middlesbrough went to the final four and had no skills in the stadium. The EFL considered the use of VAR unfair for other semi-finals.
Last season, VAR was used in the semi-finals and featured four Premier League clubs.
