Paris Saint-Germain was scheduled to face Marseille in a League One clash on Sunday evening. However, the match has been postponed, and a severe storm is expected in France’s Bouches du Lau Rune region. The fierce debate reportedly occurred when authorities tried to agree to a new date for the fixture.
PSG entered the weekend at the top of the League 1 table after winning all four league matches this season. Meanwhile, Marseille has endured mixed fate in the early stages of the campaign after winning two of the first four League One clashes. Roberto des Zerbi’s team is aiming to rival PSG for the title this season after finishing second in the Paris Giants’ first half.
Marseille is located in the Bouches du Rhone region of southern France and is garnering orange warnings due to rain, floods and thunderstorms.
And the League One Chief confirmed in a statement on Sunday afternoon, hours before the match, that the encounter had been postponed.
According to French football journalist Fabrice Hawkins, there was a heated debate behind the scenes at the time when the match was finally held after the postponement.
The rules state that if you can’t start due to bad weather, the match must be played one day later than originally planned.
And Marseille wanted the rules to apply to ensure the game went on Monday, even if it coincided with this year’s Baron de Or Ceremony.
A while after the postponement was confirmed, the League 1 Chiefs issued another statement, announcing that the match would progress at French time at 8pm on Monday evening.
This year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony will be held on Monday evening at the Theatre du Chatelette in Paris.
The award has been announced annually by French Football since 1956 and is considered the most honorable and personal honor that a Baron de de de de deux or a football player can receive.
Eight PSG players have been nominated for the Men’s Award this year, with Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Nuno Mendes, Joao Neves, Fabian Ruiz and Vitinha looking at the trophies.
Former PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who moved to Manchester City at the end of the summer transfer period, was also nominated.
PSG enjoys a sensational year on the pitch, and Luis Enrique’s team won the Champions League for the first time in history in May after relaxing the Ligue 1 title. However, Parisians were unable to secure the Club World Cup trophy as they lost to Chelsea in the final of the competition in July.
