Luke Shaw acknowledged the scathing review of Roy Keene’s performance, and admitted that the former Manchester United skipper was justified in his harsh words. Sky Sports critic Keene has been torn by the show after United humiliated the 3-0 Manchester Derby defeat and denounced the left-back for “making a living” for years at Old Trafford.
Shaw, who was negligent in two strikes in the city, confessed that despite the stabbing of criticism, was miles below the standard required for that crushing defeat, and Keene was entitled to highlight his shortcomings. “People have an opinion, so sometimes you have to take it on the chin,” Shaw said.
“He has a lot of experience. He was one of United’s best captains to date. Of course, that hurts.
“But for me, criticism is part of being a footballer. But I listen to it. But I think he was right. I don’t think I was on my level at all last week.
“Roy Keene doesn’t have to tell me. After the game, I knew that, but of course it hurts. The most important thing is to know how good I am. The manager knows that.

“I think managers who have played with me in the past know that. I’m always on the team and I play all the time, so there must be something that managers believe.
“I’m not young now, so I need to be consistent. I had a lot of ups and downs, but for me, it’s about keeping that consistency at a high level because I know I can do it.
“That’s why last weekend hurt me a lot because it wasn’t my level. And I think the criticism is something people understand. But like I said, I take it on my chin and hear it and move on.”
