The women’s Super League match against Liverpool’s Aston Villa was postponed after a tragic pass from former Reds manager Matt Beard. The game is scheduled to take place in the West Midlands on Sunday, with kickoff at 12pm. However, it was decided that the match would not continue after Beard died suddenly at the age of 47 on Saturday.
In a statement, Aston Villa said: “The Barclays WSL fixture against Liverpool has been postponed following yesterday’s catastrophic news that Matt Beard has passed away.” Liverpool also confirmed that details of the rescheduled match will be announced “soon.” Beard successfully held a successful tenure at Liverpool, first leading her to women’s super league glory in 2013 and again in 2014.
He managed the Reds twice. His first stint in 2015 returned to Merseyside six years later after spells at the Boston Breakers, West Ham and Bristol City.
During the 2021/22 season, he returned Liverpool to the WSL and reestablished him as the top-ranked, terrifying force.
However, he won 19 of his 103 matches in his second spell, leaving Liverpool abruptly this February.
He then took on the head coaching role at Burnley in June, but resigned last month to explore other opportunities. He was badly associated with the vacant position in Leicester City.

Liverpool FC paid tribute to Matt Beard, who died tragically at the age of 47 on Saturday. The club said, “Everyone at the club is thinking with Matt’s family and friends during this devastating time.
“Matt was not only a very dedicated and successful manager, but also a person of true integrity and warmth that he always remembers with genuine affection to everyone he worked with at the club.”
The Women’s Super League also expressed its appreciation for Sad Dol through its social media accounts, saying:
“Matt plays the role of instruments in the development of women’s football and is overlooked by everyone involved in the game.
The Leeds United woman shared her feelings and said, “Everyone at Leeds United expresses her sincere sadness to Matt’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
The Arsenal woman said, “Everyone at Arsenal expresses love, support and sadness to Matt’s family and friends during this difficult time.
The woman from Leicester City expressed her sadness and said, “Everyone in Leicester City expresses deep sadness to Matt’s family and friends at this sad time.”
A wave of respect from former and current players continued as the soccer community mourned the loss of their former Red Manager.
