PGMOL has been urged to change rules regarding Premier League suspension times. Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Everton at Anfield added just three minutes to the end of the second half. The Merseyside Derby certainly fulfilled its promise to a neutral audience as the Reds quickly secured a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Ryan Gravenberch’s incredible strike came to decisive control of the Reds, accompanied by the fourth goal of the Hugo Ekitike campaign. Nevertheless, Everton fought back at the contest courtesy of Idrissa Guey’s efforts, establishing the foundation of a fascinating conclusion.

Unfortunately for Toffees, the pursuit of equalizers was hampered by the inclusion of just three minutes of extra time in the second period.

Liverpool managed to hold the victory, but the complaints from the visiting team were clear.

David Moyes is found confronting Judge Darren England after the encounter, but Jack Glaeshe took note after the final mouth whisper before being escorted by Jordan Pickford.

Moyes said: “The three minutes were very strange. I had to stop all the quick free kicks and take it home for the whistle. Then I get a reservation (take a quick free kick).

Grealish added: “Even the suspension time is 3 minutes and a minute. I’ve never seen it in the Premier League in the last two or three years. I’ve been unhappy with the referee.”

In light of Everton’s complaints, former Premier League umpire Keith Hackett suggested to the Football Insider that PGMOL should be pondering changes to rules regarding suspension times. He said: “Remember when you added 10, 11, 14 minutes of a Premier League match?

“It lasted about six weeks. Three minutes in today’s Merseyside Derby. That’s not enough.

“Deputies must timing the game from the hands of game officials and introduce independent timekeepers who run the suspension within the stadium.

“If you do that, there will be fewer players getting injured, but there will probably be fewer stops. They’ll want to continue the game, right?”
