Arne Slot confirmed that Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz have been named the bench against Everton, helping them manage their busy fixture schedules. Liverpool were on the verge of Everton at Anfield and were trying to continue the perfect start to the new season.

The champions won five matches in all competitions, but each needed a slow goal. Most recently, Virgil van Dyke scored a stop-time goal and defeated Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

It then quickly turned for the Reds, with Everton being a visitor in their first game of the Premier League weekend. Also, the slots rotated his options. Most notably, Alexander Isaac and Florian Wiltz are not included in the starting lineup.

Isak, a £155 million signature from Newcastle, debuted mid-week, but Wirtz featured it to launch a campaign in all games. Speaking before the Merseyside Derby, Anfield’s boss admitted that the busy week was involved in his thoughts.

He states: “We needed players to be ready for this game and be able to fit the strength of the game well from the start.

Regarding the decision to give Isaac a break, he proposed that Sweden itself agree to the decision he would not start. “Usually, when you’re not playing a player, I don’t think there’s a player who says, ‘OK, I understand your decision.’

“I wouldn’t be surprised if you asked him today that it was his best choice for him that he didn’t start, but of course it’s about match fitness. It was good to see him play an hour mid-week.

Wirtz has not registered a goal contribution since the Community Shield. Slot previously sought patience in a £116 million summer signature. He revealed that the Germans were still adapting to life in the Premier League, and instead preferred the physicality of Dominique Soboschlei.

Alexander Isaac played Liverpool's Champions League clash in almost 60 minutes mid-week, but it's still not clear if he's starting in the Merseyside Derby.

The slot continued: “The same thoughts as Mac Alistair on the bench against Atletico. As I said, not eight days, not eight days, this is Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday. This is one of the most intense games we have to play.

“I think Szoboszlai, who played both of these games today, is more used to Florian’s premier league and the strength of this program than he comes from Germany. So it’s just a lot of games in a limited time. I don’t think he’s from the start.”
