Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim has rebutted that despite criticism from fans and experts about his setup, even the Pope can’t persuade him to change his formation. The Portuguese coach was called out with an unwavering commitment to a 3-4-3 formation. Anyway, Amorim remains immovable.
The Red Devils, who ended last season (the worst position in 51), have only been able to secure four points from four games this season and are embarrassingly knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League 2 side Grimsby. Following a high-level meeting to discuss the team’s continued performance with the United co-owner, Ineos Chief Jimuratcliff, Chief Executive Omar Berada and director of football Jason Wilcox, Amorim made it clear that he is not intending to change the controversial system.
When asked if his idea of changing the system was an argument during the meeting, Amorim said, “No, no, no, no, no, no, the Pope won’t change. This is my responsibility. This is my responsibility. So I won’t change it.
“If I’m a player and I have a coach, it doesn’t matter if he’s in the world or not, it says you need to change the system, and I’m in this moment, they’ll see me differently.
“So, everything is important when you think about the impact that decisions have on your team. So I’m going to say the same thing. This has evolution.
“But I do things my way. Some people do it differently, but that changes. So I hope there’s time to change, but that changes.”
