Alejandro Garnacho returns to Manchester United on Saturday since the summer £40 million switch to Chelsea, with the winger sure to receive a hostile reception
Alejandro Garnacho can expect a hostile reception this weekend when he returns to Manchester United for the first time since departing for Chelsea.
Garnacho is the first member of Reuben Amorim’s “Bomb Squad” less than three weeks after his fierce exit. The winger, along with fellow exiles Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrrell Malacia, was exiled to Amorim after asking him to leave.
In the case of the Amroim and United tier, Garnacho’s talent and potential outweighed his ego and petulance, so they decided to cut his losses and cash at the age of 21.
On Saturday, Garnacho is the No. 1 public enemy when he leaves the tunnel at the Dreams theatre, a stadium that once praised him but now seen as a traitor.
It was a position among United fans heading towards his loyal match, and they were a tribute to one of their most famous stadium chants, “Viva Ronaldo,” Cristiano Ronaldo, replacing his name with Garnacho’s name.

But he’s not respected and now spinning, rather than being respected, when he was benched for the final defeat of the Europa League last season, after being benched for the final defeat of the Europa League last season, he was no longer respected.
Only time can tell if Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca succeeds, Amorim fails, unlocks the possibility of Garnacho’s tints and instills some discipline and humility in him, but United has not lost his sleep by allowing him to join his Premier League rivals.
Garnacho’s ending mise at United began shortly after Amorim felt he was unable to hear instructions when he played in a Europa League match four days ago when he succumbed from his team for the Manchester Derby last December, before being in charge with Rushford.
Garnacho was then given a reprieve, unlike Rashford, and won his place in the United lineup, but his card was marked with Amorim.
Garnacho’s inflammatory mass explosion about his omission from the Europa League final starting lineup was Amorim’s final straw, and he kicked him out of the team for United’s final match last season.
This was the first major step to offloading players that were likely to be too cumbersome and highly maintained to go further. Specific evidence came in the summer when Garnacho posted a photo on social media of Rashford’s name and wearing a villa shirt with No. 9 on his back.
It was considered not a true solidarity show with Rashford, who spent the second half of last season renting out at the villa, but a provocative gesture and excavation in both Amorim and United.
Garnacho and Rashford were both at odds with United, and the former actions only served to reinforce the views within the club that he had to go, regardless of his talent and potential.
United fans generally don’t like to watch talented academy players leave before they have the opportunity to fulfill their potential.
But as Garnacho discovered, talent alone is not enough to succeed at United. You need discipline, a strong work ethic, and a mentality that goes beyond your own interests and surpasses the qualities he has not grasped or shown in his five years at United.
