Manchester United boss Reuben Amorim is under great pressure after Sunday’s 3-0 derby defeat at City, and the boring boss is effectively saving his job in the face of three matches
Reuben Amorim effectively has three games to save his job as boss for Manchester United. United scored just four points from the opening of four Premier League games this season, finishing 14th in the table.
Since taking over with United 10 months ago, Amorim has won eight of eight of his 31 leagues, claiming to have lost confidence in some of his senior players.
United’s hierarchy claims that Amorim holds full support and has no plans to replace him, but it is understood that he will assess the team’s situation and trajectory after the next three games.
United, who lost Sunday’s Manchester Derby 3-0 at local Rivals City, hosted Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday, followed by a trip to Brentford and a home counter with newly promoted Sunderland before a two-week international break.

Amorim knows he is under a lot of pressure after a poor start to a new season when United stepped into 15th place under him in 51 years’ worst league position.
In the first match after an international break, United travels to Arch rivals and champions Liverpool. The club chief is under pressure to replace Amorim before that.
Despite their personal claims, despite their faith in Amorim, United’s soccer leadership team gave Eric Ten Hag the same assurance before pulling the plug into last season’s nine-league games.
United’s league fixture with Sunderland is the eighth of the season, and Amorim is keenly aware that he will continue to receive victory and continue to test the faith of those who hired him if he cannot take his team with him in a winning run.
“That’s not the record you should have at Manchester United,” he said after his defeat at Etihad. “There are a lot of things I don’t know what happened in these months, but I will accept that.
“But I’m not going to change. When I want to change philosophy, I change. Otherwise, you have to change the man.”
According to the bookmakers, the candidates to replace Amorim are Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, former England head coach Gareth Southgate, Fulham’s Marco Silva and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraora.
Former Tottenham boss and current US head coach Mauricio Pockettino is linked to United’s job when 10 hugs are appointed, but is supported to be in the frame to take over at Old Trafford if Amorim is fired.
