Forest Green Rovers welcomed the Academy side of Premier League Club Wolves at the National League Cup on Tuesday, and fans were confused when the hosts made four alternatives within the first minute
Robbie Savage used clever methods around the rulebook by creating four alternatives within the first minute of Forest Green Rovers’ National League Cup Cup Tie Again Wolves. Savage, who was in charge of non-league side forest green in July, made seven changes to the starting XI from a 1-1 draw with promotional chaser Scunthorpe United on Saturday.
The former Premier League star, 50 would have changed the entire team without the strict rules of competition. In National League Cup matches, all clubs except the Premier League people must name at least four players who have started their previous league games in the lineup.
For Forest Green, they were forward Tom Knowles, winger Kyle McAllister, left-back Neil Kenni and center-back Abraham Kanu. However, just a minute after kickoff, Savage used the loopholes, replacing them all at once, placing four fringe players.
Also on Tuesday, Rochdale replaced two players after placing a National League Cup tie at Blackburn Rovers at home for a minute. Dale, like Forest Green, ran through the 3-2 winner in home soil.
Savage’s men continued their undefeated start to the season as goals from Jose Marquez, Isaac Moore and Harry Cardwell were enough to see the wolves’ academy team. Forest Green is currently second in the National League table and has won six of the nine opening games.

They are Rochdale, the leader of the league league with a single goal. Forest Green approached the first defeat of the campaign on Saturday. James Barragitzi’s 98th minute equalizer rescued the draw to Scunthorpe at home.
The Nailworth-based Gloucestershire Club is currently in five stages for two years. Forest Green made the playoffs last season under former manager Steve Cotterill, but lost in the semi-finals as he tried to make an immediate return to the EFL.
Savage and Co. competes with Rochdale and third-placed Carlisle United in one automatic promotional spot. As the season progresses, more clubs will be in a mix. Recently, Rovers was reported to be enthusiastic about Peterborough midfielder Chris Konte Clark, who mirrors football.

However, Savage denied Forest Green’s interest in the former Altrinchum man this week, claiming he was happy with many of him. “We’re not interested in that player,” he confirmed.
“Our team is really good. Yes, he’s a good player. I’ve seen something on social media this week. I’m linked to the EFL club – again, that was the first thing I knew.
“But I can assure you that neither is true.”
