Former Newcastle United midfielder Elliot Anderson is reportedly a target for Manchester United to transfer, with the Red Devils being considered a £70 million bid
Former Newcastle United star Elliot Anderson is said to be on Manchester United’s Truz Far Radar, according to the former Trafford Scout Mick Brown.
Anderson made 55 appearances for Magpies after rising through the youth system and moved to Nottingham Forest in July 2024 on a £35 million contract.
The talented 22-year-old’s decision to be let go was criticised at the time, but Eddie Howe was forced to sell to meet profit and sustainability (PSR) rules. In simultaneous movement, spare goalkeeper Odesssees Vlakodimos was moved to Newcastle for £20 million.

There were concerns that Newcastle might make Anderson go, considering his chances of becoming a top-notch Premier League player, and he seems to be living up to those expectations now.
In fact, Anderson contributed to Forest’s impressive 7th place finish last season, picking them up in the Europa League this season. His impressive performance continues this season, culminating in his senior debut with Andorra in England’s senior debut under Thomas Touchel earlier this month.
After an outstanding performance that won him the Match of the Match Award, Anderson was rewarded with the second cap of the England match against Serbia, where he shined again.
Rumors about his future are escalating as Anderson is turning his head in both the forest and international duties. According to former unit boss Brown, the Reds are pondering potential moves.
“Man United have seen Anderson,” Brown told Soccer Insider. “He did an incredible job at Nottingham Forest, then he came to the England side and turned his performances during the match.
“He is confident in setting up the park and getting the ball, he is safe and not afraid to put in tackles, something he needs.
“Anderson has solved or certainly helped many of the problems he had under Amorim. Everyone knows he wants a midfielder in the summer, but he hasn’t been able to find the right person available for the price he wanted.
“I don’t know that Anderson will cost you, but he’s the guy on their radar. He’ll be the ideal player to fill the gap they’ve had on the team.”
Reports suggest that Anderson is at least £70 million, twice what the Reds paid him more than 12 months ago. It is currently believed that midfielders are not intending to leave the city ground.
But will he need to make a switch to Manchester?
Chronicle Live believes Magpies don’t have a buyback option despite suggestions that could cause certain clauses in their dealings with Forest.
If Newcastle needs to get Anderson back, they will have to pay the midfielder the full market rate. It has been suggested that Newcastle may not have a sales clause in Anderson’s contract.
Anderson wasn’t the only player Newcastle had to let go last season to comply with the PSR rules. Magpies also offloaded Yangkaba Minte to Brighton and Hove Albion in a deal worth around £30 million.
But the decision to let go of Anderson was always something that could come back to bite them – and it has.
