Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone revealed that he was humiliated by Liverpool fans when he broke the silence after Virgil van Dick’s dramatic stop time winner by clashing with the crowd and receiving the red card. The Reds skipper seized a thrilling 3-2 victory in a dying moment when he grabbed the net from the corner, sealing off the opening Champions League encounter in the campaign.
The argument forced Simeone to receive a march order from the judge and to observe the final stage from the stands. The Atletico chief provided his version of the event at a post-match press conference, claiming that insults from the crowd must have consequences.
“They talk about taking care of each other all the time, but they insult you throughout the game and can’t say anything because you’re your manager,” Simeone said.
“My reaction was unfair, but did you know that I was humiliated for 90 minutes, then scored my opponent’s score and then insulted? That’s not that easy.
“(The judge told me) He understood me and I hope Liverpool can improve that aspect.

“There was humiliation during the match, including gestures. It’s clear that I have to stay calm. I have to put up with insults, gestures, all sorts of situations.
“I’m not going to get into the exact nature of insults. I don’t want to get involved in it. I have to stay in my place. I know what happened behind the manager’s bench. I can’t solve social problems in one press conference.
Simeone praised Liverpool’s performance, grit and resilience.
“The truth is that it was a beautiful game, a beautiful game against a team full of great players in a great stadium in front of an incredible crowd,” he added to UEFA.
“I think we were dangerous because we had weapons and gave everyone to shoot the game in the direction we wanted.
“They (Liverpool) are brave teams and they showed they competed well in the Champions League in their play last season.
“We know these games are long. The bench helped us recover what happened in the first moment and what happened.”
