Burnley 0-1 Liverpool: Liverpool struggled to win a fierce battle at Burnley thanks to the final second penalty scored by Mo Sara after Hannibal Maebre’s handball
Mo Salah scored a penalty in a dying stop time as Liverpool continued the perfect start to the season at Burnley.
Hannibal Mejbri’s handball gave Sara the chance to step up from the spot and win after being unconvincingly redded by the hosts for most of the afternoon.
Hugo Ekitike approached in the first half as his efforts ran over goal mass, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch testing Martin Dubravka from afar.
Burnley’s Lesley Ugochukwu was sent off for a second bookable attack with five minutes remaining. Hannibal’s slow error then handed Sarah a chance to win. This is the main topic of the game.

1. Champion sign?

3. “Silly” Milos Kerquez left early
It has proven that Milos Kerquez will forget in Burnley in the afternoon. After a volatile start in his first few matches, Hungary was impressed with his victory over Arsenal, but his performance here is defined by the diving that led to his booking for the first half, an act Jamie Carrager labelled “silly.”
With Slot worried about the second card, Kerkez became obsessed with the first half and was replaced by Andy Robertson. Andy Robertson quickly joined the action. The new signature may reflect on this as a learning experience.
4. Burnley is solid – it gives them a chance
Scott Parker was beaten 9-0 by Liverpool in a previous match in 2022, but since then he has learned awful lot about management.
Burnley bosses have created a side that is difficult to beat, especially at home, which is difficult to break and difficult to defeat. They may not have some quality of other teams there, but they will work just as hard as they do.
5. Until he doesn’t do that, Mo Salah Stutters
But you try to slice it, but it was a slow start to Mo Salah’s season. The Egyptians scored in Bournemouth’s opening night victory, but here they have been scoreless and very quiet since his late moment.
Liverpool hopes that the real Sarah will eventually return to top form, but it’s mild concern to see him fail to influence a game like this after he himself admits he’s still learning the moves of some of his new teammates…until he does.
