Ange Postecoglou knew he was destined to the Tottenham exit door despite winning the Europa League, which proved to be the club’s final match

Ange Postecoglou left a mark in the hallways of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Australian was caught up in his new job not only with the Nuno Espirito Santo alternatives talking big, but also with returning the glory day to the club.

Postecoglou mentioned “bringing joy to people” behind his last official appearance when he paraded the Europa League trophies three months ago to hundreds of thousands of paranoid Spurs supporters. And he plans to do the same in the East Midlands.

He said: “I want to win the trophy. That’s what I’ve done in my entire career – and that’s what I want to try in the Forest of Nottingham. From that point of view, seeing the opportunity that what I’ve seen in the last few years since the President (Evangelos Marinakis) took over, those ambitions are backed by actions.

“So I wanted to go to a club that gave me that platform to continue my career so far, that’s what I meant to keep getting things, and that was important to me.

“They aren’t in a position to do that, but they have that ambition and I love making things that last.

“It’s what inspires me and motivates me. You can create moments that will last you in all kinds of organizations, which will drive me every day.

“The joy of coming to this club is getting a trophy, not because it helps me maintain my job, but because I know how it makes people feel.

“That’s why when I finish my tenure here, I can come back and somewhere on the wall there’s something that says I’m here.”

It was the first time that Post-Coglu announced he spoke publicly following the final match of the Spurs’ campaign. He claimed he knew that the bag would come long before the club’s glorious night in Bilbao.

He closed the chapter and said, “I know it’s coming – and I knew it would go a long way, long before most people knew it would happen.

“It wasn’t fair to everyone else, so I wasn’t going to let it happen, I wanted my family to enjoy it, so I enjoyed it too.

“I wanted everyone to look around and say there’s a moment when I’ll be with me forever. That’s a special moment.”

However, Post Ecogul was repeatedly hit with accusations that “Angeball” was flat, as they hit a Premier League buffer and finished one location in the drop zone despite the Spurs’ euro success.

Asked about the approach he was taking with his new club, Postecoglou said:

“I don’t apologise for that. It’s the way I’m in and the way I want to see my team play. I want to control the ball. I want to put pressure on the opposition when I score a goal.

“But it all has the ultimate goal of winning a football game, because that’s what excites me more than anything. If you win a football game, you get a trophy.”
