Tottenham legend Harry Kane was quized on the shocking news that Daniel Levy left the club almost 25 years later at the helm in North London
Harry Kane paid tribute to the “great” work Daniel Levy did in Tottenham last week following the unexpected news that he left his post in a North London outfit last week.
The statement that announced Levi would step down from his role as executive chairman after nearly 25 years at the helm last Thursday, was released last Thursday, but it was later revealed that Levi was actually removed from his position by the Lewis family, the club’s majority shareholders.
Levy has called for shots with the Spurs for over 20 years, gaining a reputation as a fiercely difficult negotiator. Kane discovered in 2021 when interest from Manchester City failed to bring about movement. The Spurs Academy graduates departed for Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 and showed their classes when asked about Levy’s exit during their English mission.
“Obviously, that was a bit of a surprise. Honestly,” Kane told reporters. “I didn’t expect that, I didn’t see it coming. Daniel was a great chairman of Tottenham because he was there for 20 years or so. Given where the club is and where he’s now, I think there has been a big change not only on the pitch, but on the pitch as well.

“At every stage, there will always be changes in the club and it will change to a higher position.”
Levy played a key role in turning Tottenham off the pitch into one of the elite Premier League players, but it was the club’s performance in recent years that led the Lewis family to act. The Spurs won just two trophies for Levy during his nearly 25-year tenure, and were unable to build on the period in which the club challenged the Premier League title and reached the Champions League finals during Mauricio Pochettino’s reign.
Despite protests from fans over the levy, his exit is still a huge surprise, and Kane admits he is not wise about why the former Spurs Supremo is no longer in power.
“Obviously I don’t know much about why it happened or what happened,” the England captain added at Levy’s exit. “All I can say is that Daniel is hoping for the best thing for him in the next thing. We obviously formed a relationship while we were together. I’m sure at one stage we’ll catch up.
