Tottenham boss Thomas Frank is calling for changes to two rules for the Premier League | Football | Sports

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank welcomed two major changes to the rules of the Premier League. When asked about potential improvements to soccer, the Danish head coach identified the rules surrounding handball as areas that require revision.

Frank was appointed as the Spurs boss in the summer and left Brentford after nearly seven years at the helm. The 51-year-old has enjoyed a promising start by securing a compelling victory over Burnley and Manchester City before stumbling to Bournemouth before an international break.

Handball has already emerged as a divisive issue in the Premier League this season, featuring Marcos Senesi over Liverpool’s Marcos Senesi’s creation of Bournemouth.

VAR got caught up in a handball decision during the encounter between Nottingham Forest vs Brentford and Arsenal vs Manchester United.

According to Frank, existing regulations are overly strict in strict enforcement of ball-arm contact.

He argues that the penalty represents too serious sanctions on what constitutes unfortunate and unintended contact.

“I’m going to get rid of the handball rule because I’m not right,” Frank told BetMgm.

“There’s handball and when you touch your arm in the penalty area, you’re giving your opponent the greatest chance just because your arm ‘touches’.

“Of course, if you stand on top of Goalline and try to save like a goalkeeper in the old days, that’s different, but you just touch the player’s arm and you don’t know if you’ll touch the arm in a particular area, giving you the greatest opportunity in the game.

“The rules you need to change to improve the game and make it fair.”

Frank also expressed his desire to see the timeout introduced in the match. “I have a timeout in half of each,” he suggested.

“From a coaching perspective, I think it’s nice to have the opportunity to talk to players during the game and adjust something.”

Regarding his new role, Frank is excited to work with the Spurs team and feels he has gained valuable insights every day. “The players have been great since my first day here and I learn more and more about them every day,” he shared.

“It’s about how they react to a particular situation, what works, what doesn’t, and what they do as people and as players. I think every head coach and manager has their own way of doing things. I always believe in it.

“I have to come across it like I do. I think that’s the best way for players to try and buy what you’re trying to get things done.”
