Patrick Dorg revealed that Rasmus Hozilund’s late departure from Manchester United came in shock. Hojlund, 22, spent two years with Red Devils and completed a seasonal loan move to Napoli at the transfer deadline.

United have deposited £5.2 million in loan money in the bank, and the Danish striker will permanently join Naples at £38 million next summer if the Serie A winner qualifies for the Champions League. Hojlund is now a surplus of requirements at Old Trafford after United paid £7.3 million with an add-on to fellow striker Benjamin Sesko.

Reuben Amorim told Hodglund he was “really happy” in the preseason, and the 22-year-old said he had no plans to leave on the Red Devils’ US tour. However, the writing was on the walls of Hojlund when Sesko signed and it was revealed that Joshua Zirkzee would become his backup.

Initially, the former Atalanta Hotshot was not sure about his move to Naples – reportedly hugging a reservation when he landed in Italy last weekend for medical care. After signing on the dotted line, Hozilund returned to Denmark for international obligations.

There he met Dorg. United’s wingback spoke about Hozilund’s departure and compared it to Christian Eriksen’s departure after his contract with the Red Devils expired in June.

“That’s how football works. You never know when your turn will be your turn to move on,” Dorg told Denmark’s Outlet Extra Bredette. “We knew it was going to happen to Christians, but that was probably a bigger shock than Rasmus had to move on.

“I told him a lot in the process and got to feel how it was going. Hopefully we’ll see each other every time on the national team now.”

Dolg spoke ahead of Denmark’s World Cup qualifiers with Scotland on Friday, thanking his fellow-goers when he joined United in January, but he is ready to live independently and alone in Manchester. “I was very happy to be a teammate with Christian and Rasmus,” the left defender continued.

“It was a huge plus for me that they were at the club when I joined, and it was easy to become part of the team, but it was by no means critical to Manchester United’s choice.

“I traveled to Italy alone when I was 17. I was alone in Manchester too, and I am so energetic. When you travel very early, when you travel very early, you have to make many decisions, so you become very strong.
