The town of Grimsby has been fined by the EFL for having a player incompetent with a stunning Carabao Cup victory over Manchester United, and boss David Alter spoke about the situation
Grimsby town boss David Alter has argued that no one can reduce his players’ display following the Shock Carabao Cup victory over Manchester United. The Mariners got caught up in the controversy a week later after the EFL penalized the town for feeling an ineligible player in their second victory.
United is not believed to have won an appeal against League 2 costume sanctions. In the penalty, Grimsby was hit with a £20,000 fine for an administrative blunder.
We understand that the Mariners have reported the violation itself and that the EFL has announced their verdict. It sees clubs being ejected from the tournament despite previous FA Cup precedents.

Artell addressed the BBC Radio Humberside (via Manchester Evening News) on Thursday ahead of his future encounter with MK Dons. And he insisted that an epic night cannot be changed in Grimsby’s history.
“The club has issued a statement. I will introduce them to the statement,” Alter said. “From my perspective as a head coach, no one can take that performance away, no one can.
“We were a better team for 70 or 75 minutes. Since then, we should have been 3-0 regardless of everything else. And I was very proud of the performance of the players, all the players. We thought we deserved to win the game.
“What happens around (says) things that aren’t in my domain (until)? (until I say), as I say, no one can take away the player’s way of performance and winning, not my eyes anyway.
Grimsby was found to be in violation of the law after Clark O’Dour played against the Red Devils. Oduor joined the Mariners on a loan from Bradford City a day before the Cup Fixture.
However, the lender’s contract later passed the deadline of 119 seconds. As a result, he was not entitled to appear in the club.
Of their fines, £10,000 must be paid before the prescribed deadline, while the other £10,000 will be suspended until the end of the season. Liverpool, Ashington Stanley and Sunderland are three other clubs that have been fined in the past for similar League Cup violations.
Grimsby’s reward for moving past United forward is a third-round fixture against Championship Side Sheffield on Wednesday. This will mark the first time since 2019 when the former featured in the third round of the tournament.
Despite the victory over United, Grimsby failed to maintain momentum and lost the last two fixtures. Artell’s side is aiming to bounce back from their recent disappointment, a 1-0 defeat to Bristol Rovers as they prepare to take on the MK Dons on Saturday.
