Ange Postecoglou is poised to take charge at Nottingham Forest after Nuno Espirito Santo’s firing. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who sought a quick replacement after x Nuno, has already settled on his choice after a discussion with the former Tottenham head coach. Nuno received the march order early on Tuesday morning and issued a brief statement citing “recent circumstances” as the rationale.
The Portuguese tactician clashed with Marinakis and the head of the global soccer EDU, showing three Premier League matches at the door in the 2025/26 campaign, with the forest in 10th place. The 51-year-old has been at the helm since December 2023 and led the club to a seventh place Premier League finish to secure Europa League qualification.
He received a new three-year contract in June, but tensions over former Arsenal Spremoyedu’s transfer activities after the summer arrival ultimately sealed his fate.
Since Tottenham rejected him at the end of last season, Post-Coglu has been unemployed and has been a consistent choice of Marinakis’s preference.
Despite Australia’s upbringing, Post-Coglu’s Greek ancestors resonate with his compatriot Marinakis, along with his vast football philosophy at the Spurs and his achievements in the Europa League. Forest was set to face Arsenal in an early kickoff on Saturday, and Marinakis acted quickly to ensure his new manager was led into the match.
Postecoglou, who had been aiming for a new role since leaving Spurs, discussed with Marinakis during an international break.
His preparation to take on the role soon was a key factor in him beat Celtic bosses Brendan Rogers and Jose Mourinho to that position. Rogers is in his final contract year with Celtic amidst the tension behind the scenes, but Mourinho has been available since he was fired by Fenerverse on August 29th.
Despite mentions of Crystal Palace manager Oliver Grasner, Bournemouth head coach Andniira Ola, and Mauricio Pochettino, who manages the US men’s national team and Fulham’s Marco Silva, they were not considered a viable option as they needed a quick turnaround.
Post-Coglue must navigate the tense situation in the forest following Nuno’s intense departure. Nuno cited “fireless smoke without smoke” amid rumors that he could be plundered, casting doubt on his own future by making abundantly revealing his dissatisfaction.
His main issue was the dynamics change after the arrival of former Arsenal sports director Edu. He collided with the existing structures of Chief Football Director Ross Wilson, Technical Director George Siliano and recruited Pedro Ferreira.
Nuno is unhappy with the slow pace of their summer transfer deals, and even more so with their final arrival. The acquisition of Douglas Lewis and Omali Hutchinson was both organized by Edu and bypassed the manager who was fighting for the signature of Mateus Fernandez of Southampton.
