England’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra will be held at Villa Park as Wembley is booked for a Cold Play concert. The three lions usually play most of their home equipment at the National Stadium.
However, at a capacity venue of 90,000 corresponding to Chris Martin’s band on Saturday night, the FA was forced to secure an alternative position. This is another opportunity for England to leave Wembley this year, with Nottingham Forest City Grounds serving a friendly loss to Senegal in June. Andorra Qualifiers represent the first English encounter of Villa Park since 2005. This was a 0-0 draw with the Netherlands.
The Villa home previously hosted many English matches in the early 2000s, but Wembley was rebuilt. One such match was Svengolan Eriksson’s debut as manager in 2001, a friendly 3-0 victory over Spain.
Following confirmation of the venue earlier this year, England manager Thomas Touchel, who previously coached Villa Park during his tenure as Chelsea boss, said: “We are excited to play at Villa Park, another stadium full of history.
“I know that my own visit to the stadium this season has created an outstanding atmosphere and is close to St. George Park.
The England team includes both fresh faces and return faces. Reuben Loftus Cheek returned six years later. He intervened with Adam Wharton after having to withdraw due to injury.
Meanwhile, newcomers Elliot Anderson and DJed Spence are keen to make their mark under the guidance of Tuchel. But the German coach doesn’t have defender John Stones who had to leave the team due to an injury Friday.
Tuchel revealed:
The Stones were hoping to get his first few minutes under Chuchel. The centre-back last represented his country with Finland last October, missing out on his first two international breaks in 2025 due to a hamstring injury.
Tuchel demands better performance than the reverse fixtures against Senegal and Andorra when England wins 1-0 at Barcelona’s minnows.
After Andorra’s match, England is currently leading Group K, who has won three to three matches and faces a much tougher challenge to Serbia on Tuesday.
