Tottenham recruitment under Daniel Levy was inconsistent.
Daniel Levy is one of the most influential figures in Tottenham’s modern history. But perhaps one of his most important comments came last month when he was talking about the club’s £1 billion stadium.
“I think that’s one of those situations. I’m sure I’ll get credit when I’m not here,” Levy calmly told Skypandit Gary Neville in a rare interview.
Taxation is correct. This is the chairman who built one of the best stadiums in the world, oversees a new cutting-edge training ground and transformed Tottenham into a stunning business with a solid financial foundation.
Still, Tottenham has never had such success on the pitch during Levy’s 25-year responsibilities. Fans have asked him to go for years. When Tottenham lifted the Europa League trophy in May, it was his first silver product in 17 years, and only the second time in Levy’s tenure.
Tottenham fans celebrated that night in Bilbao as one of the biggest of their lives.

But let’s be fair, the supporters of those spurs had to be patient. They are tired and not afraid to say that. There was protest outside the ground, hymns at the stadium, and abuses directed in Levi’s direction.
It’s no wonder Levy has been bothering me recently, looking gaunt. He admitted that it was a heart decision to plunder Ange Postcoglo, the manager who led the Spurs to that European trophy.
This summer is one of the biggest changes. He is the new manager of Vinai Venkatesham’s new CEO Thomas Frank, and is now the new non-executive chairman, who has been taken over by Peter Charrington.
It’s now a strong structure for the club. They made the changes and went through the relocation window, and three days later, Levi announced his departure 25 years later.
One point of levies that are truly misunderstood is spending. Tottenham is a big spender. They are the fourth-largest net spender in the Premier League in the last five years.
The trouble is that they spent it badly! The recruitment is inconsistent and it is said that fans will be different this time every summer. This year will probably be one.
They ran away after a manager and a bad booking. When Levy took over in 2001, one of his first things was to remove former Arenaal boss George Graham. It earned him popular points with his fans.
But who has worked since then? Mauricio Pochettino was probably the biggest hit. He led them to the Champions League final. But when the team needed an overhaul, Levy couldn’t make it work.
He was a brutal negotiator for the relocation and the players. Not to mention the manager. Jose Mourinho will be fired a few days before the Cup final. Awful appointments at Antonio Conte and Nuno Espirito Santo.
Postecoglou was fun. It went well in that first season, Big Ange produced some interesting football and they easily broke through the table. “We’ve got Tottenham back,” Levy squealed at the fan forum.
What a terrible movement. You don’t hear from him. They then get some results and raise pop collections. Sadly, it was clearly one of several bad mistakes from the chairman who was a great businessman, a tough negotiator and who led the club to great success.
However, his 25 years are remembered by mixed fans with frustration and lack of pitch.
