England midfielder Cobby Mineau has shared a social media update following a failed attempt to secure a transfer from Manchester United during the summer window. Mainoo’s Old Trafford Future seemed uncertain last week after the youngster called for a loan departure.
However, the Red Devils were standing firm, and manager Reuben Amorim was determined to protect the talented midfielder. The Monday transfer deadline passed without movement revealed that the 20-year-old will remain at Old Trafford until at least the window in January.
Mainoo’s enthusiasm to leave the Northwest comes from the lack of opportunities for the first teams in this campaign. The homemade talent appears to have grafted during an international break – overlooked due to England’s September World Cup qualifiers.
“Nothing is pretty,” he captioned an Instagram post on Friday, sharing multiple images of his workouts and gym workouts. The post elicited responses from several United teammates – Lenny Yoro and Joshua Zirque commented, skippers Bruno Fernandez and Patrick Dorgu showed likes and support for them.
Amorim called on Minee to fight for his position in United’s Start XI after struggling to solidify the regular Premier League berth this semester. “I want Cobby to stay,” Amorim declared at a press conference last Friday.
“He needs to fight for his place and we need Cobbies, so that won’t change. I understand that players who aren’t playing in this moment are disappointed.
“Everyone will have the same opportunity. You have to fight that week.”
Mainoo is set to become a key player in the upcoming matches for United, the first Manchester Derby of the season on September 14th. The young talent has fond memories of the fixture, scoring the goal in 2024 in the Reds’ final FA Cup victory. The young star then has the opportunity to shine against Chelsea, one of several eye-opening Mine’s clubs during the summer transfer window.
