Paris Saint-Germain confirmed their head coach Louis Enrique will undergo surgery after being rushed to the hospital after a cycling accident. The 55-year-old Spaniard was injured while cycling on Friday. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was found to have a broken collarbone. Thankfully, Enrique was not suffered from any other serious injuries.
The cause of the accident remains unknown. PSG, who celebrated its first Champions League victory under Enrique’s leadership last season, released the news in a statement.
“After Friday’s cycling accident, Paris Saint-Germain head coach Louis Enrique will be treated by emergency services and undergo surgery on his broken collarbone.
“The club has expressed full support and hopes for a quick recovery from him. Further updates will be shared in time.”
Enrique enjoyed his downtime during his international break. Despite losing the Club World Cup final to Chelsea 3–0 in July, PSG started a new season with four consecutive wins.
But it wasn’t all voyages as I realized I was 2-0 down to Tottenham in the Super Cup final last month. The European champions made a late comeback with a penalty shootout and won the victory.
PSG then held two league games 1-0. They maintained a perfect start to their League One campaign with a 6-3 victory over Toulouse on Saturday.
Also, Lyon was the only one who secured the victory with three opening fixtures on France’s top flight, with both clubs remaining leveled with nine points.
PSG will host the lens at Parc Des Princes following an international break before starting the Champions League title defense at their Atalanta home.
Their European adventures feature an appetizing encounter with Enrique’s former employer, Barcelona, alongside home fixtures for Bayern Munich, Tottenham and Newcastle.
The 55-year-old took over control of PSG in the summer of 2023 and left his role as Spanish boss after the 2022 World Cup.
Enrique led Parisians to one glory in both campaigns under stewardship.
PSG destroyed Inter Milan 5-0 and founded Enrique as two-time European champion in 2015, following his previous victory at Barcelona.
“The goal (this season) is first and foremost to improve as a team, both offensive and defensive,” he said recently.
“We can still identify areas of the game where we can improve.
“From a title perspective, we hope we are ready to compete for all of them. We all believe we can win this season and repeat the feat.
