Enzo Maresca appears to have been handed over one of his star players who withdraw from international equipment due to physical discomfort, and concerns about a potentially serious Chelsea injury. Bruce has so far been devastating about Levi Colwill’s serious knee problems and the subsequent injuries in this campaign as Cole Palmer and Liam suffer from muscular issues.
The latter kept his hamstring during a 2-0 victory over Fulham, but Palmer failed the feature after retreating from the West Ham collision the previous weekend.
Maresca has been offering both updates in recent weeks, and neither sounds particularly encouraging. “Liam’s injuries don’t look good. He’s full speed and he was a hamstring so he’s always needed like the week,” he explained.
“[Crystal]Palace match, he (Palmer) wasn’t 100%,” the Chelsea manager revealed following his victory over West Ham. “But he is trying to put a big effort on his club, his team and his fans.
After excluding him during a match press conference before his Fulham six days later, Maresca continued: “Cole, we need to see every day.”
Maresca is keen to make Palmer available immediately, especially before the Champions League campaign begins with a trip to Bayern Munich later this month. The 23-year-old was absent from the previous two matches but suggested he’s back via Instagram.
The Italian manager also mentioned Moises Caseco when discussing the many injuries Chelsea faced after participating in and winning the Club World Cup in the summer.
“Today (Thursday) Moy only had his first training session since West Ham’s game,” he said before his victory at Fulham. Despite this, Caicedo has played every minute of competitive football since the final 16 stages of that tournament, but this streak ended early on Friday morning as he lacked in Ecuador’s World Cup qualifier against Paraguay.
Ecuadorian journalist Maria Jose Flores reported that this was always a plan and that Kayseko had no intention of playing in the match due to physical discomfort. He is expected to return to Argentina on Tuesday, September 9th.
This news may be a complicated blessing for Chelsea. The fact that he deserves to return in just a few days is positive, but the prospect of him playing in a key match against the reigning champion is a concern.
