Jamie Carrager has denounced certain aspects of Alejandro Garnacho’s switch from Manchester United to Chelsea. But that has nothing to do with the winger’s soccer talent or the way the transfers are conducted. Rather, it concerns Garnacho’s actions after arriving at Stamford Bridge.
After his £40 million move was confirmed, Argentine International headed towards West London, but was restricted to seeing the Blues clash with Fulham from the stands. The 21-year-old has a seven-year contract with Chelsea, but United secured a 10% sell-on clause as part of the deal.
The transfer was completed, but it was too late for Garnacho to compete with the cottage. Less than eight minutes after the fixture, Garnacho caught the redhead on the TV camera.
Sky Sports discovered that the youngster glued to his phone rather than seeing the action unfolding in front of him. Alongside Roy Keane, Carragher was asked to evaluate some of the most important summer signatures in the Premier League.
The incident during Fulham’s encounter affected Karager’s verdict. “You know you didn’t like me?” Karager said. “When they go to the people in the stands, did you watch the game?
“I can’t stand it. And it’s not just him by the way, but I can’t stand it. So I’m missing it. Sit on his phone during Chelsea’s important game.”
Keene offered his thoughts on the transfer, saying, “I’m not sure about that. I’m not sure.”
Garnacho’s Chelsea debut could face the Blues’ other West London rivals after an international break. The former United star will need to demonstrate his fitness after being separated from Reuben Amorim’s first team over the summer.
The winger was one of the groups that included Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony.
However, Garnacho wants to settle for his new team. “It’s an incredible moment for my family and I to join this amazing club and I can’t wait to get started,” he said.
