United boss Ruben Amorim wants to upgrade Andre Onana and Altai Bayindeal, with Martinez and Royal Antwerp’s Sen Rammens emerging as two candidates for the No. 1 spot. Argentina World Cup winner Martinez is understood to be preferred, especially for his greater experience in the Premier League.
Ahead of his potential exit, there was an unconfirmed suggestion that Martinez was removed from the villa team due to his tonight Premier League encounter at home with Crystal Palace.
The Villa wanted about £40 million from Martinez, and the 23-year-old Runmens united in the £20 million region, a major consideration for United, against the backdrop of profits and sustainability regulations (PSR).

Martinez turns 33 next week and selling him to United is understood to help Villa help comply with the PSR and that they are willing to acquire an experienced keeper if the fees meet his rating.
Onana, which cost United £43 million from Inter Milan in 2023, was responsible for United’s shock EFL cup exit at Grimsby mid-week, but Bay Indeal also struggled to go out against Arsenal, Fulham and Burnley.
Former United defender Victor Lindelof, who left when his contract expired at the end of last season, is understood to be on the verge of joining Villa.
Swedish International has made 284 appearances for the Red Devils over eight years of spells at the club.
