Arsenal issued a statement when he signed Mesat Ozil on the deadline of 2013, but after a violent fallout between his agents’ infamous Tirade and Mikel Arteta, his gunner’s tenure ended with a sour note
Arsenal broke their transfer records when they purchased Mesat Ozil from Real Madrid at the transfer deadline 12 years ago. However, after four FA Cup victories, the German midfielder left North London in bitter words.
In 2013, the gunners managed by the iconic Arsenwenger released a statement of intent when they secured services for Ozil, who had just won the Los Blancos and La Liga. The 24-year-old Arsenal set the £42.4 million Arsenal.
After eight years, Ozil was constantly linked to his travels from the Emirates. Mikel Arteta’s arrival reduced his game time even further, and his final exit for 2021 was not in harmony.

Ozil launched his next Premier League campaign with Starting XI, with one of his worst campaigns for the Arsenal Shirts in the final defeat of the Europa League in 2019, but was soon swapped and began 18 league matches throughout the semester. He only signed a 350,000 pound hit a week in 2018.
This left Ozil omitted from both the club’s Premier League and Europa League teams ahead of the 2020/21 campaign after the two reportedly clashed over the two refused to cut wages during the coronavirus pandemic amid 55 redundancy at the club.
With his deal expired in 2021 and his days with Arsenal counted, the German wrote on social media:
“When I signed my new contract in 2018, I pledge my loyalty and loyalty to my beloved club, Arsenal, and I am saddened that this has not been coming back and forth.
“I always tried to stay positive on a weekly basis that I might have an opportunity to return to the team again soon, so I’ve been silent up until now.”
That October, Arteta admitted that he “failed” Ozil accordingly, saying, “What I can say from my side is that it’s just a football decision. The level of communication with him is really high and we know what to expect from each other.
“I’ve been like that for the last eight years, but now there’s nothing new. A lot has happened over the last eight years. My job is to get the best from all the players and contribute to the team’s performance.
“Today, I feel I’ve failed. I want the best mesat possible for my team, and I was able to get closer to it.
Ozil’s agent Dr. Erkut Sogat also joined the spat and slammed Arteta, saying, “Arsenal fans deserve an honest explanation.
“You didn’t fail Ozil. You failed to be fair, honest and transparent, respected those who were contracted and always loyal.”
Unfortunately, with such a promise, it arrived on the deadline and became one of the Gunners’ star names through tenure loaded with the trophy, but Ozil left a bitter taste in many people’s mouths at his exit in January 2021.
He joined Fenerbafs after his contract ended six months earlier. He only spent one season there while writing a three-year contract with the Turkish side. After dropping out with head coach, he set out for Istanbul Basaksehir before retiring in March 2023.
