Reuben Amorim oversaw a difficult start to Manchester United’s season, and the Portuguese boss was urged to seek support from former United Star Wayne Rooney
Manchester United boss Reuben Amorim was urged to turn to Wayne Rooney to help him get the most out of Benjamin Sesco. £74 million striker Sesko has yet to score on one start and two substitute outings for his new club, and was questioned for getting his 10th penalty to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup defeat on Wednesday.
It was still very early in Sesco’s united career, and there were suggestions where convulsions were the factor in the decision to penalty, but everything is not right for Old Trafford in a broader sense. Amorim threw doubts about his own future after Cup humiliation. The Red Devils missed out in Europe last season, but still won games this season.
Now former Premier League striker Troy Deaney is encouraging former sports CP boss to seek some kind of support from the club’s legendary Rooney. Rooney’s son Kai has already published a United book, and Deanie believes there are benefits to folding the former England frontman.
“Sesco is not good and no one says he needs to learn the basics, but there’s the nuance to play for such a big club,” Deanie wrote for the Sun. “Wayne Rooney lives near Carrington. He has many at the academy with his son. Why not seek his help?
“It has something to do with whether Amorim has such humility to go to Rooney. He moved from Everton to United and was able to talk about how he dealt with his family life and whether it would help him book a restaurant with a bit of privacy.

Deeney mentioned a similar situation in his early days at Watford. Sean Dish, then manager of the Hornets, took former United and British star Teddy Shellingham to move forward through training drills, and the impact quickly emerged.
Dutch left at the end of that 2011-12 season, but Watford finished his next campaign as the top championship scorer with 85 goals. Deeney scored 19 out of 85 and scored even more in each of the next two campaigns as the team ultimately earned promotion to the top flight.
United came back from 2-0 and forced a penalty against Grimsby, but members of Amorim’s team were unable to find the net in either of the first two Premier League games. The Red Devils drew a blank for Arsenal at home, but Rodrigomniz’s own goal helped them score points at Fulham.
Next was a home game against Burnley, where pressure was heightened on Amorim, and the head coach revealed to the frustration he expressed after his mid-week defeat. “At that moment I was really upset and really disappointed, and we felt we had a good preseason, so we were playing better.
“We played badly with Fulham for 30 minutes () and that kind of performance (at Grimsby) I was really disappointed with everything. But now it’s a new game and focuses on the next one.”
