According to the Daily Mail, they could have signed another statement on the deadline, but refused the opportunity to make a third deal. Liverpool said they had the opportunity to land Leao, but the Club Chiefs said they didn’t want to advance to AC Milan.
The Italian giant also tried to sign Federico Chiesa, but the proposal was similarly rejected. This means there is less chance of transfer business going to occur between the two clubs ahead of tonight’s deadline.
Earlier this week, AC Milan linked Liverpool defender Joe Gomez’s move, but that move is no longer expected to happen. Gomez will instead stay in Anfield and provide defensive covering at least up to the January window.
Reds youth Jaden Duns, Luke Chambers and Stephen Valjetic are also set to stay with the club despite interest from the championship and elsewhere in Europe. However, Kaide Gordon can rent Liverpool out.
For now, they hope that Isaac and Guehi will finalise their moves to close the productive summer window. Liverpool is one of the busiest clubs in the Premier League and will spend more than £400 million once these transactions are completed.
Arne Slot hinted at the window’s busy end on Sunday, saying, “(I’m) quite busy so I have to fly at 2am and get home, so I have to go back to the Netherlands!
“I haven’t spoken to Richard (Hughes) yet, and I don’t think it’s surprising they’re trying to see if they can strengthen their team.
“But if that’s not possible, we can be willing to do it with this team, because this team shows they can compete.
“The only thing we have to find is whether you go to a program with two or three games a week or two, depends on how you want to see it, if that’s enough.”
