Manchester City has signed a deal to secure Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Genluigi Donnaruma following the decision to offload Adason to Fenerbafe. Pep Guardiola is about to reorganize the goalkeeping division for this term after Edason slips down the hierarchy.
However, Trafford endured a difficult return at Etihad after a serious mistake during last week’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham, urging Guardiola to acknowledge uncertainty about the goalkeeper of his first choice before the Brighton fixture. Italian international Donnaruma has been heavily promoted for the switch to the city after losing his position under Luis Enrique following the arrival of Lucas Chevalier. He declares his preference for “another goalkeeping profile” and is keen to complete his departure before the transfer window closes.
City officials have now secured a comprehensive contract with PSG and have won Donnarumma. Donnarumma will take on the role of the club’s first choice shot stopper.
The development followed the city’s arrangement with Fenerbafs for Ederson’s potential deal worth £12 million. The Brazilian is currently traveling to Türkiye for a medical check-up.
Ederson is poised to close his eight-year tenure at City, where he witnessed him claiming six Premier League crowns and Champions League. Despite the current situation at PSG, Donnarumma, currently ready to receive medical care in the city before the 7pm deadline, remains one of the world’s top goalkeepers.
The 26-year-old won the Champions League with the French Champions last season, adding his impressive collection of trophies, including the European Championship, the Italian Super Cup, four league titles, and two French Cups.
He has made a total of 161 appearances since joining PSG from AC Milan in 2021. After appearing on the pitch after beating Ange 1-0 last week, Donnaruma appeared to say emotional farewell to the fans.
His arrival will significantly strengthen the city’s goalkeeping options, following Guardiola’s approval that he is uncertain about his first-choice goalkeeper.
When asked about his No. 1 keeper, he replied: “All clubs are capable of everything before the international transfer period is closed. That’s just as easy. After that, we will play United with the Champions League and Arsenal.
