Ehringhaaland has decided to make a change to the name that appears behind his shirt when he plays for Norway ahead of his match between Finland and Moldova
Erling Haaland decided to incorporate another name in the back of his shirt when he played for Norway. Haaland is known simply by his surname on Manchester City and the national side, but he has decided to make a change.
City No. 9 has Haaland in his shirt when he rides Brighton this weekend in the Premier League. However, when he pulls on a Norwegian shirt at the international break next September, it turns into a brown Haaland.
Norway played Finland in Oslo on September 5th before taking on Moldova five days later in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers inside the same stadium.
The claim was made by a Norwegian shirt retailer, but the old Norwegian manager, Solbacken, was unaware of the change when asked. “That’s his name (Braut), it’s not that difficult anymore,” he said. “I’ve never known anything up until now.”

Haaland was the last name of his father, Alf, and was also a professional soccer player, while Braut is the name of his mother, Gry Marita’s maiden. She previously competed in Heptatron for Norway, but it is common in Norway when children use their parents’ surnames.
The display name for 25 years old on Instagram reads Erling Braut Haaland. Haaland has so far been a staggering 42 goals in 43 appearances for Norway. This is the tally that has already made him the highest scorer of all time.
He joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, scoring 126 goals in just 148 games for the club, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup. Haaland scored the mark of the season by scoring twice in a 4-0 victory over the wolves, but drew a blank last weekend as the city was beaten 2-0 by Tottenham.
The striker hopes City will return to the scoresheet as he brings attention to the national side when he travels to Brighton on Sunday. Norway has not competed in the World Cup since 1998, but is currently in a good position, sitting at the top of Group I and having a perfect record following the four-man qualifying round.
With Haaland and Arsenal captain Martin Odegard leading the side, Solbacken will end next year sending Norway to the US, Canada and Mexico. They began qualifying in an impressive way, beating Moldova 5-0, Israel 4-2, Italy 3-0 and Estonia 1-0.
“Norway will never win the World Cup,” Haaland told Time Magazine in the summer. “If we were to compete in the World Cup, it’s like another big country that won it. It’s going to be the biggest party ever. The Oslo scene is incredible.”
