Manchester United hit a new lowest on Wednesday night when they were dumped from the Carabao Cup by the town of Grimsby and are being questioned about Reuben Amorim
Reuben Amorim caused fresh scrutiny about his future with his comments after a humble exit from the Carabao Cup at the hands of the town of Grimsby.
United were dumped from the tournament they recently won in 2023 in the first hurdles by League 2 outfits that deserved to advance in normal times after taking a 2-0 lead. Brian Mbemo and Harry Maguire denied them such feat, but the Mariners thought it was a perfect penalty. Grimsby was delighted at the moment, but United was left to contemplate a shocking new worst.
Shell-shocked Amorim made no excuses after the match. Some of his comments have fueled social media speculation that the former sportsman Lisbon chief is trying to reflect on his own future. He admitted that “something has to change,” but that wouldn’t be “22 players again.”

“I think this is a bit of a limit. I think something needs to be changed,” Amorim said in an honest post-match review. “I think the team and the players really spoke out loud today, so that’s it. (Tonight) I think the best team won.
“I think what they’ve talked about is really clear, so let’s move on from today. I think what happened today was obvious to everyone. How we start the game without losing it completely.
In speculation on Amorim’s future life on social media following Grimsby’s match, his post-match comments are far from his response when people questioned him after Manchester United’s defeat in the Europa League final in May.
After that loss to Tottenham, Amorim insisted that he would leave freely if Manchester United fans and top brass lost faith in him as the club’s head coach.
He said rebelliously at the time: “If the board and the fans feel I’m not the right person, I’ll go the next day without talking about compensation. But I’ll never quit again. I’m confident in my work.
“In this moment, I’m not here to protect myself. That’s not my style. There’s nothing to show my fans. There’s a bit of faith in this moment (I need it).”
