Newcastle has been searching for strikers all summer, missing out on Hugo Ekichike and Benjamin Sesco, but now Stuttgart’s Nick Ultemed is heading to St James’ Park

Newcastle is set to break its transfer record after agreeing to a £65 million fee with Stuttgart to sign Nick Ultemad. The deal could prove to be a major turning point in the story involving Alexander Isaac, who was banished in his desire to join Liverpool.

The 23-year-old Woltemade is deeply tied to his travels to Bayern Munich throughout the summer after an impressive campaign with Germany at the Under-21 European Championships. The forward scored six goals and offered three assists when his country reached the final, but lost England in the extra time.

Bayern reportedly made three bids to Woltemade, each being rejected by Stuttgart. Newcastle is now swooping down and appears to have successfully concluded the long search for the striker.

Magpies were rejected by two main targets. Hugo Ektique signed Liverpool and Benjamin Sesco joins Manchester United. Other players Newcastle saw include Brentford’s Star Yoan Wissa and Chelsea’s Nicholas Jackson.

However, Woltemade said goodbye at Stuttgart on Thursday and completed the move on his way to St. James Park. It is understood that Newcastle will pay the Bundesliga club the first £605,000,000 and £4.5 million with a potential add-in.

Woltemade’s arrival could have a direct impact on Isak’s future, with Magpies turning down a £110 million bid from Liverpool earlier this month. Newcastle has always been targeting advances to replace second-choice Calm Wilson, who left his contract expiration in June, but club record fees suggest that Eddie Howe believes Ultemaid can step into Isaac’s shoes.

Liverpool has yet to make follow-up bids with five days remaining in the summer transfer period. Isak is still training away from the Magpie’s first team, and in this week’s talk of a new showdown with the Newcastle hierarchy he has repeated his desire to leave.

Hau, who missed Monday’s 3-2 defeat at his Liverpool home after Isaac, whose current record for Newcastle was signed for £63 million, has issued an update on Sweden’s future. “I don’t know where it stands in this second,” the Magpie manager admitted.

“The ideal from Newcastle’s point of view is that we want to clarify, we want to move forward. We want to change the story. We’re the beginning of this season, we need to try to get results and focus on what we can control.

“Alex’s quality would have made a difference between the two games. I’m not going to deny that. But I said that even if every part of the team doesn’t work well, the team works well and performance doesn’t happen.”
