Reuben Amorim faces scrutiny more than ever after Manchester United was dumped from the Carabao Cup in a humiliating way and fined the town of Grimsby in the fourth tier
Reuben Amorim will give a showdown with the Manchester United hierarchy following Saturday’s must-see match against Burnley. Amorim is under pressure after the humiliating League Cup on Wednesday hit a new low at the exit of the humiliating League Cup to League 2 Grimsby, with a bad start to the new season.
United, who finished 15th in the Premier League last season, has scored one point from the openings of two league games this season and is currently in 16th place. Failing to beat the newly promoted Burnley at Old Trafford will raise Amorim’s fever after Saturday’s match, who admitted that “we have time to decide things,” which appears to be a clear reference to his role.
The 40-year-old Portuguese head coach spoke with club officials during an international break, leaping new doubts on his united future with his dull remarks following Grimsby’s fiasco. Amorim has signed a contract until June 2027, with additional years available, but has won seven of his 29 Premier League matches since taking over Erik Ten Hag last November.
Although he is reluctant to loot Amorim after less than a year of responsibilities, there is the acceptance that he must oversee the immediate rise of the results. United CEO Omar Bellada rejected former sports director Dan Ashworth, who supported Thomas Frank, Gareth Southgate and Marco Silva, and promoted the appointment of Amorim.
As Belada’s reputation rests on successful Amorims at United, the former Manchester City executive is happy to give his 40-year-old every opportunity to turn things around. However, with no European football this season, Amorim has to turn the team’s fate to continue his job as the League Cup and FA Cup are their only chances to win the trophy.

United will face the final four days of the transfer window to recruit goalkeepers to take over the error-prone duo Andre Onana and Altai Bayindeal.
Amorim is also on the market to sign a new midfielder before Monday’s transfer deadline, but his first-choice target, Brighton’s Carlos Valleva, is likely to be too expensive at £100 million. United also attempts to offload Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia before the deadline, with all four still training away from the first team.

It is understood that Antony’s permanent deal to join the real Betis is approaching, but Garnacho is refraining from moving to Chelsea. United wanted £50 million for the 20-year-old winger, but it could potentially accept Chelsea’s offer to end the saga for Winger’s future.
According to United sources, there are no plans to abandon Amorim early in the season, and believes that emotions made him better right after Grimsby’s exit.
