The Portuguese has been struggling since arriving at Old Trafford in November and has the lowest win rate among permanent United managers since Ir Alex Ferguson.

Prior to the United clash with Burnley on Saturday, the 40-year-old admitted that he wanted to leave his post as United boss from time to time, and felt this way mid-week.

Amorim told reporters:

“Sometimes I love being with players. Sometimes I don’t want to be with them. So once again, I need to improve that. That would be difficult.”

He asked if he wanted to quit on Wednesday, he said: “I felt it after the game. I don’t feel it now.

“I think that’s the most difficult part of a loss. Sometimes it’s not the outcome, but it’s whether we lost that game or we pulled it out. That’s hard to accept.”

Amorim was cruelly honest in a post-game interview at Brandel Park on Wednesday night.

He said his team was “completely lost,” adding that “the players really spoke loudly.”

Speaking Friday, Amorim said that despite the fact that “experienced people” say “should be more calm,” he will remain open and emotional after the game.

The former sports manager said:

“Sometimes I hate players, sometimes I love my players, sometimes I want to protect my players. This is how I do things and I become that way.

“Again, I know there are a lot of experienced people talking about how to play in the media.

He added:

“At that moment I was really upset and really disappointed because I felt we had a very good preseason, so we were playing better.

“And that performance, I was really disappointed with everything.”

United’s host Burnley is in a match Saturday afternoon that can prove crucial in easing managers’ scrutiny towards the first international break of the season.

They scored one point after opening two Premier League matches of the campaign, losing at home to Arsenal before pulling away at Fulham last weekend.

TNT Sports and Discovery+ includes the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League and more
