Manchester United’s Cobby Mineu is at the heart of an extraordinary £50 million tug-of-war with Napoli in the Serie A Champions. The Italian Titan, which is aiming for the Champions League, is on a four-year contract for the 20-year-old midfielder. Mainoo has expressed his desire to permanently join the United hierarchy on the Serie A side.
However, United have resisted the move so far, recalling the surprising impact of former player Scott McTominai. Nonetheless, Miraoo remains determined to secure his exit before Monday’s transfer deadline, according to Mirror. Midfielder McTominai, who was allowed to leave Old Trafford for Antonio Conte’s Napoli last summer, provided a £25 million deal with a winning performance in a series of matches both domestically and Europe. Despite the obstacles behind the ongoing contract extension negotiations, the English midfielder, who still gives high respect among many United fans, remains on a contract with the club until 2027.
It is also clear that United may be open to an interesting offer for him, given his regular first-team opportunities under Reuben Amorim.
Mainoo played the entire game in his EFL Cup penalty shootout loss at Grimsby on Wednesday.
Prior to this, he was left on the bench for United’s first two Premier League matches. Amorim claimed he was competing for the spot with team captain Bruno Fernandez.
The past year has been a challenge for Mainoo, who is from Stockport. Following the impressive ending of the 2023-24 season, we saw him represent England at the European Championships.
