Tottenham was able to hijack Chelsea’s Zabi Simons pursuit as Bruce reportedly focused on a deal with Barcelona attacker Fermin Lopez. Lily White endured the annoying summer transfer window and was unable to continue walking to find new signatures for people from Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Tottenham appointed Thomas Frank as boss before the new season and snapped Mohamed Kudus from West Ham in July after sealing off the permanent signatures of Kevin Danso and Mattis Tell. Center backs Luka Wrzkovic and Kotatakai also arrived, and the Spurs also rented out Joa Parchña from Bayern Munich. The Spurs have since claimed two Premier League victories and after two matches they found themselves second at the table.
According to the catch-offside, Tottenham explored the possibility of signing Simons.
Chelsea is said to be the frontrunner to land the Netherlands International after agreeing to personal terms with the attacker. However, progress is stagnant as Bruce prioritizes departures before taking Simons with him.
The delay means other clubs have the opportunity to participate in the contest, and the Spurs are said to be monitoring the development very closely. And they may decide to move quickly to steal Simons from under Chelsea’s nose.
According to Givemesport, Chelsea have added Lopez to their list of options and are looking for further enhancements.
The Giants in West London have already brought in Joan Pedro, Liam Dellup and Jamie Gittens this summer.
Chelsea are assessing whether to move for Lopez, and discussions have already been held on the part of players. It also has a £50 million transfer, but another Champions League club outside England reportedly approached this week.
It appeared that Tottenham would sign Ebebeki Eze earlier this month after reaching an agreement with the Eagles to take them to North London.
However, after the English international snuggled the Spurs and joined Arsenal instead, Frank explained: “There were a lot of links. There are a lot of links in the future. And to make it very clear… I don’t want players who don’t want to come to the club that doesn’t want to wear this great badge.
“It’s very clear and I’m pretty sure the fans feel the same. If they (potential signatures) don’t want to put a great shirt on their heads, then play for badges, play in the club, really enjoy it, it’s fine. We don’t want them. I think that’s an important message.”
