He was pleased with the way his team found a way to ultimately win, but slots were not impressed with the quality of the football on display by the hosts.
“I’m not too sure if I saw a soccer game today,” the Dutch told Sky Sports. “It was a set piece, a set piece after a long throw.
“It had little to do with tactics, but I didn’t say much before the game, but I really liked how we stood strong.
“If we’re at 10, we’re going to expect that to be a big plus for us, but when the goalkeeper makes all the free kicks, if you’re one player, there’s not much help. So it was very difficult to bring 2-0 to the line.”
Slot added: “You don’t need a set piece, a long throw-in, a long ball from the goalkeeper, an extra guy. It’s always great to have extra players on hand, but it’s not as beneficial as if they want to bring the ball out of the back.
“So yes, with the ball, it was the only offense that was good in the second half, and with the exception of maybe 2-0, that was what led to the goal and that was a great offense.
“And for the first time we went from right to the middle to the left. It was a big goal for a 16-year-old.”

Alexander Isaac Saga led much of the pre-match buildup, and when the game began, it was clearly in the hearts of the players and fans.
An electrical atmosphere was created due to a collision that rarely requires extra needles. And Newcastle was sure to miss out on their desired striker as they allowed a chance to open a scoring slip in the opening 30 minutes.
They showed all the resilience to stay in the game, almost pulling away from the comeback, but in the end it was of no use.
“It’s a bruise game for us with so many different emotions,” Howe said. “I’m really proud of my performance. I feel great energy, great strength, I’m happy with the game plan below, I’m going to 10 guys and for me it’s a better team in the second half and first team.
“Nothing, it’s a pretty bad day to leave an injury, a stop, a concussion.”
