Liverpool won two of the two in the Premier League thanks to a late winner from Rio Nugumoha in Newcastle, but Jamie Carrager was very critical of the performance

Liverpool beat Newcastle on Monday night, somehow beating the much better side. That was the opinion of Jamie Carrager. Jamie Karager denounced his previous club despite Rio Gumoha’s dramatic late winner.

The Reds left St James Park in a 3-2 victory thanks to a 100-minute goal from 16-year-old Ngumoha. However, their performances are far from persuasive, despite playing the majority of the game with one advantage after Anthony Gordon was sent off.

Liverpool were 2-0 in just 20 seconds into the second half thanks to goals from Ryan Gravenburch and Hugo Ekitike. Magpies hit an impressive counterattack, with Bruno Guimares’ header equalising by Osra in the 88th minute after Dan Byrne’s flick-on.

Ngumoha bailed them out with a cool finish from a pass by Mohamed Salah after a clever dummy from Dominik Szoboszlai, but Carragher was not in the mood to celebrate a full-time whi.

“What I saw tonight is probably one of the worst performances from a winning team and one of the best performances from a losing team,” he told Sky Sports. “I don’t care about Liverpool now. Of course they’ll definitely be ecs, but tonight’s Eddie Howe guy was absolutely fantastic.

“It looks like it ended 2-0, but the crowd, the strength they played, I’m afraid of what the score would have been if it were actually 11-11. I think Newcastle won the game.

Sky later showed a clip of Karagar celebrating the winner of Nugumoha in the studio. His immediate response was, “Your lucky red man!”

Arne Slot agreed that they could be better on the ball, measuring in Liverpool’s ratings and praised their mentality by sticking to it. “I’m not too sure if today was a football game or not,” he said.

“It was the set piece after the set piece. It was the long throw after the long throw. We didn’t fall and we didn’t stand strong. We didn’t play well enough with the ball. I don’t think there was much open play.”

“I know it’s a difficult place to come. I know a lot of oil has been on fire this week to fire Newcastle,” Liverpool captain Vilgil van Dik said.

“We were expecting what happened tonight, and the unfortunate part for us was acknowledging two set pieces.

“Free kicks, corners put pressure on them. They had quality. Looking at the traditional top six from last season, there were only couples who beat them.

“I really enjoyed these types of vibes, but I could have made it easier if I hadn’t given them set pieces.
