Liverpool reluctantly wins cash for Louis Diaz earlier this summer, and the new Bayern Munich star speaks about his decision to move to the Bundesliga giants
Lewis Diaz revealed that he chose the brains of Liverpool’s new boy Florian Wiltz before moving to Bayern Munich and Bayern Munich’s green lights earlier this summer.
Diaz, 28, joined the German champions last month with a move of 75 million euros (£65.5 million) after deciding to pursue new opportunities this season. After telling Liverpool that, the Premier League champions agreed to the terms of the deal Diaz headed for Munich despite interest from other European clubs, including Barcelona in the first half of their transfer period.
Diaz wanted to explore his options and play in a different setting, but Columbia International admits that Anfield was a “big gamble” after a 2-1 win over Bayern’s Stuttgart in the DFL Super Cup over the weekend.

Diaz’s switch to Bayern followed Wiltz’s UK’s record move to Liverpool. The German star was a hot fortune heading into the summer following Bayer Leverkusen’s stellar 2024-25 campaign, which won Bundesliga under Xabi Alonso last season.
Looking back at his discussion with Liverpool’s new offensive maestro, Diaz continued before acknowledging that it would take time for Bayern to benefit from the same electric display that contributed to the success of Liverpool’s title in the previous period.
“I already had Bundesliga knowledge,” Diaz added. “I love watching football and all the competitions. I had the opportunity to talk to Florians from Liverpool. I know it’s a physical league. I want a great debut. I’ve been here at the club for about two weeks and need time to settle down.”
Dias and Bayern will launch a Bundesliga campaign at their homes in RB Leipzig on Friday.
