Manchester United head coach Reuben Amorim explained his decision to leave Andre Onana on the bench due to Sunday’s Premier League clash. Altay Bayindir has been selected in both the starting lineups of United’s opening fixtures this season, making Onana’s role in Amorim’s planning more and more uncertain.

Onana has spent the past two seasons as United’s first choice goalkeeper since signing a £47 million contract from Inter Milan in 2023.
However, he failed to persuade him due to a series of notable mistakes that had plunged his stock.
The 29-year-old missed the entire preseason through a hamstring injury that had been struggling with training and took part in three sessions before last weekend’s Premier League opening game.
Bayindir began a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal, but was partially negligent in the winning goal of Riccardo Calafiori after flapping in the corner of Declan Rice.

Onana traveled to Craven Cottage for the first away test on Sunday of the campaign, but Amorim nominated him among his replacements.
Prior to kickoff, the United boss explained his thought process and claimed he had chosen the “best player” for his job.
He told Sky Sports: “It’s the same kind of decision that a manager has to make. I’m going to look at the game, I try to imagine the next game, I put the best player to win the game. So I did that.”
Amorim made one change to his United team after a positive performance against the gunners, introducing Amado in place of Dio Godarotto on the right-wing back.

“We try to imagine what will happen during the game. Our games are consistent and we need a way to control the game. We need an option to play a game that is different from the bench,” continued Amorim.
“Sesko took us two weeks and he’s trying to understand everything. I’m trying to understand what these little things are like for players.
“I talk to players a lot. I have to wait a little to help them. I just want to win the game.”
